Get Fit for FREE on Fort Belvoir!
Many moms start thinking about working out before they ever actually deliver. It is the desire to fit back in those pre-pregnancy clothes or your dress blues quick enough that you aren’t tied to yoga pants or a maternity uniform for another year. Here is my first word of advice — be kind to yourself! NINE months on, NINE months off! Here on Fort Belvoir, there is a plethora of options for working out for all abilities and here is the best part – ALL of the workouts or workout locations I am about to tell you about — YOU CAN BRING YOUR CHILDREN! Don’t let lack of childcare let you put off your fitness goals another day!
Hearts on a Mission (HOAM or BodyBlast) Don’t let the name scare you! This is a great group of gals to start working out with. It is an hour long intense workout. You will need a towel, bottle of water and light weights (light meaning none if you are just starting to workout for the first time in a while!) This is high energy cardio and strength training in one. There are leaders who do the modifications if you are just getting started so it is a do what you can, when you can type thing! You can bring your little ones with you to the gym or workout and they will stay close by in a stroller or occupied with small toys you bring. Currently, Body Blast is Monday, Wednesday and Friday @ 0930 here on post. Tuesday is Cardioblast or a Run. Check out their Facebook for more up today information about workout locations and times! Stroller Warriors Fort Belvoir, Stroller Warriors Quantico This running club is a great asset to any athlete’s (or mom’s!) schedule. Just because you have never run before does not mean you cannot join Stroller Warriors. Stroller Warriors is a great team of cheerleaders that help push you to your goals in a friendly manner. Your goals can be simply walking for 30 minutes or training for your next marathon. There are all abilities within this club! Not only is there running, but they also do other types of workouts as well! Come on out to a workout and see if this is the right fit for you! Stroller Warriors Fort Belvoir meets on Monday and Thursday at 0945 during the school year or 0830 during the summer. Praise Moves – A yoga like faith based stretching workout at the REC building next to Fort Belvoir Chapel on Mondays and Wednesdays at 0930. Free watchcare for children is available on site. Again, these can be modified for those who are new to this type of workouts. Check them out on Facebook and on their website
Woodlawn Village Community Center Gym – If you are a resident of the Villages of Fort Belvoir, you may go to the Woodlawn Community Center and sign up for a key to their gym. This gym has a two rooms with a glass partition separating them. One with workout machines and the other with a children’s area. This is a great way to get a few miles in if it is raining or to use other machines while your little one is contained.
