Military life is hard. We move A LOT. Just when you’ve settled into a home, created your tribe, and gotten into a nice routine, it’s time to move again. This time your family is growing too!
Finding a support system for pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period at a new duty station is not for the faint of heart. “Who will watch the kids if I go into labor in the middle of the night?” “Who will drive me to the hospital if my husband is on a TDY?” “Who will take pictures of those precious first moments?” These are all questions that cross the military mom or spouse’s mind.
Your doula will!
Whether by choice or chance, your doula may just become your best friend. As military doulas we understand this crazy lifestyle and we’re sharing in one of the most transformative, intimate life experiences! There is no doubt we’re going to become more than just your doula, but your friend! Our Stars and Stripes Doulas provide support during pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, and even provide sibling support! We are the full package for your family’s care and again, your friends!
Let me share a story…in 2015 I saw a post in the local military wives group where a woman was looking for a doula that could support her for a “unique situation”. As a new doula I was ready to tackle anything and answered the call! I started speaking to this pregnant woman and found out she was a surrogate and looking for a doula that had an open mind and was eager to learn and grow. Cue, Melissa meets Melanie!
We spent time together during the pregnancy under the guise of doula support but truth be told, we enjoyed each other’s company and had a lot in common! We were becoming quick friends and the experience only made us closer. Melanie delivered a sweet baby girl into her parent’s arms and I had the honor of witnessing and sharing in that experience through supporting Melanie. I don’t think I could imagine something so precious, selfless, special, and admirable. I already respected Melanie to pieces but that was incredible. Fast forward, Melanie decides to become a doula and we launched Stars and Stripes Doulas together!
What started out as a doula-client relationship quickly progressed to a friendship then a business partnership! We each took a risk and are both tremendously grateful we did so! Your Stars and Stripes Doulas may just be your best friend in waiting!
