We had the honor of supporting Michael (USMC, Ret.) and Monica (USN) Frazier after the birth of their second child. The Frazier’s found us after asking their homebirth midwife for suggestions of postpartum doulas in the Washington DC area and after meeting them for an interview they shared their decision to hire us based on our military-affiliation, proximity to their home, CPR certification, and healthcare experience (as Melanie is a former EMT and Melissa had completed First Responder and EMT training).
Michael and Monica were one of the most inspirational families we have worked with. Michael enlisted in the Marines in 2005 and after seven years with three combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, he sustained life-altering injuries after stepping on an IED. The blast took both of his legs and much of the use of his right arm. He met his amazing wife, Monica, during his recovery at Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center where she worked as a US Navy Hospital Corpsman.
Michael and Monica are the proud parents of a toddler and welcomed their little boy into the world on New Years Eve. They enlisted the help of Stars and Stripes Doulas, LLC for household tasks such as cooking, light housekeeping, laundry, as well as, emotional support, physical support, and infant care. When asked by the Fraziers’ to describe this experience they said, “You BASICALLY did what you wrote but you went above and beyond. You allowed me to keep my sanity. You provided invaluable advice for breastfeeding, nutrition, etc. I will never forget the kindness you showed to our family.”
Recently, Michael and Monica were the recipient of a gorgeous, new, state of the art, accessible home for their family. Check out these photos from the specially adapted smart home dedication for U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Michael Frazier (Ret.) and his family in #NorthCarolina. This forever home is made possible through the Gary Sinise Foundation‘s R.I.S.E. program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment).
